Floranada Sidewalks Web News item with map of project area

FDOT Floranada Road/Northeast 45th Street Sidewalk Connectivity Project
The project limits are on Floranada Road/Northeast 45th Street from Northeast 44th Place to Northeast 13th Avenue and from Northeast 18th Avenue to SR 5/US 1/North Federal Highway in the cities of Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale. This project aims to enhance the safety, resiliency, and longevity of the infrastructure for our communities.

PROJECT IMPROVEMENTS
• Adding new sidewalks within project limits to enhance safety and connectivity for pedestrians
• Milling and resurfacing the existing roadway from Northeast 44th Place to the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railroad and from Northeast 18th Avenue to SR 5/US 1/North Federal Highway to ensure long-term infrastructure resilience
• Installing new drainage to ensure long-term resilience
• Upgrading existing pedestrian signals and lighting at the intersection of Floranada Road/Northeast 45th Street and SR 5/US 1/North Federal Highway to enhance pedestrian safety and nighttime visibility
• Upgrading curb ramps, pavement markings, and signage to improve visibility and accessibility.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
• Lane closures are not permitted 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
• Business and residential access will be maintained at all times throughout construction.
• Additional information about lane closures, detours, and pedestrian impacts will be provided in the weekly traffic report distributed by FDOT

The City of Oakland Park, as the Project Sponsors, received funding through the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and requested that FDOT District Four design and construct the Floranada Road/Northeast 45th Street Sidewalk Connectivity Project through the Oakland Park Resolution No. 2016-009. The Broward MPO is investing over $300 million to create safer, healthier communities in Broward County, and this project is one of many within a larger plan to create enhanced bicycle, pedestrian, and public transportation access. The Broward MPO is a federally mandated agency that is responsible for making decisions on local transportation issues and deciding how to spend federal funds on transportation projects within Broward County.
