Several Park Improvement Projects Getting Underway

City News Flash Posted on February 09, 2026

Momentum continues across Oakland Park as the City delivers another round of high-impact park improvements. With more than $130 million invested in community upgrades over the past five years, work is moving forward at Veterans Park, Stevens Field, Richard E. Giusti Heart Par Cours, and Royal Palm Park, bringing safer routes, better access, and refreshed spaces for residents to enjoy. All projects are anticipated to be completed in 2026.

At Veterans Park, improvements will include a new kayak launch, a paved trail, new site furnishings (benches, bike racks, and trash cans), enhanced lighting to improve safety and usability, resurfaced parking, and accessibility upgrades, all delivered with a focus on preserving the park’s natural beauty and protecting the existing ecosystem while expanding recreational opportunities and improving waterfront access. To complete this work safely and efficiently, Veterans Park is closed during construction.

At Stevens Field, renovations include a new restroom building, LED sports lighting, a multipurpose field, field grading and new sod for a safer surface, new irrigation, a perimeter multipurpose walking trail, new site furnishings (including benches, bike racks, and trash cans), and bleachers. Stevens Field is closed during construction. Once work is complete, the field will be used for city programming and public rentals.

At Richard E. Giusti Heart Par Cours, improvements are coming to the existing trail, with new exercise equipment and signage to support wellness and help residents navigate and enjoy the park. Work will be completed in two parts—starting on the south side while the other portion remains open, then shifting to the next area so residents can continue using the park throughout construction. Construction fencing is up around the south side of the park.

At Royal Palm Park, the project will deliver an upgraded park trail with pedestrian-friendly enhancements, new pathways, and pathway lighting to improve comfort and visibility, and improved landscaping and stormwater management to support sustainability and help the park be more resilient to heavy rain. Work will be completed in two phases, starting on the south side while the north side remains open, then shifting to the north side when the south side reopens. The playground and pavilion, parking lot, volleyball courts, and restrooms are open and are expected to remain open while park improvements are made.

These projects are part of Oakland Park’s continued investment in the public spaces that connect neighborhoods and strengthen everyday quality of life. Thank you for your patience as Oakland Park keeps moving forward, delivering progress you can see and use.
