Big Changes Coming to Collins Community Center

City News Flash Posted on March 10, 2025

Exciting upgrades are underway at the Collins Community Center, and as part of this transformation, the parking area will be closed for two weeks starting March 10, 2025. We appreciate your patience as we work to modernize and enhance this vital community space.

The Collins Community Center renovation is a key part of Oakland Park’s ongoing efforts to modernize city facilities. The building is undergoing a significant overhaul, with a $2 million grant from FloridaCommerce helping fund a state-of-the-art technology hub that will provide expanded access to digital resources, employment training, and telehealth services, and a $500,000 public library construction grant.

The improvements to Collins will provide a home for our library in City Centennial Park. Moving the Library to the city center allows us to enhance and broaden our services in the heart of our community. It aligns with our redevelopment goals by situating the library in a Qualified Census Tract. Equipped with the latest technology and resources, this new space will become a central hub for learning and community activities, providing substantial benefits to our residents and furthering our commitment to revitalization in our CRA and Opportunity Zones. As we plan for our future library, this first step will allow the community to enjoy these services in a more central location.

This project is part of a larger citywide initiative to create a more resilient, efficient, and vibrant Oakland Park as the City approaches its second century. Over the past decade, Oakland Park has significantly invested in municipal facilities, including Fire Station 9, the North Andrews Gardens Community Center, and the new Public Works Complex. City Centennial Park, Dr. Carter G. Woodson Park, and Wag Dog enrich the city’s recreational amenities. These improvements reflect Oakland Park’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and a bright future for the community. Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to enhance our city. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting transformation!
