Oakland Park is excited to announce significant improvements to the city’s building permitting process, designed to make it faster, more efficient, and user-friendly.
One of the most notable changes is the conversion to an entirely electronic permitting system. This new system is accessible 24 hours a day and allows applicants to submit permit applications online, upload digital plans, and track the status of their permits in real-time. Electronic routing of the digital files enables simultaneous review by all relevant trades, significantly reducing the time required for plan review. Once approved, applicants can access stamped plans online and proceed with payment.
The inspection process has also been improved. Applicants can now schedule inspections through an online portal or by phone, with next-day appointments often available if scheduled before 3 p.m. Efforts are made to coordinate inspection times to suit the applicant’s schedule. Results are provided in real-time, helping to keep projects on track.
The city has introduced several cohesive process improvements, including standardized checklists for plan reviews and inspections. It has also enhanced communication with permit applicants by enabling property owners and contractors to monitor their permit status online. Meetings are available at various construction stages for larger development projects to facilitate smooth progress.
These improvements are part of Oakland Park’s broader initiative to modernize city services and help residents and businesses complete projects more efficiently and effectively, better meeting the community's needs.
