The City of Oakland Park continues building for our second century to create a variety of new facilities and amenities for the centennial in 2029.
Coming soon, look for new sidewalks near Lloyd Estates Elementary School. Did you know that most students at Lloyd Estates live within a ¼ mile radius and walk to and from school? The upcoming Safe Routes to School project will provide a continuous sidewalk system to help students safely get to and from school.
The project, which spans Lloyd Estates and Prospect Gardens neighborhoods, will include installing or replacing about 14,750 linear feet of a five-foot-wide sidewalk and installing ADA ramps, crosswalks, and curbs to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety throughout the area. The boundaries for the new sidewalks are Prospect Road to the north, NW 38th Street to the south, Powerline Road and I-95 to the west, and North Andrews Avenue to the east (see map).
The City of Oakland Park secured a $922,749 grant through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Safe Routes to School Program and $751,690 from the Broward MPO for the project. The contractor is mobilizing and will begin construction in December. The sidewalk project is expected to take about nine months to complete.
