The City of Oakland Park proudly honored its Volunteer Corps on December 6th with a memorable Appreciation Dinner, followed by recognition during the City Commission meeting. In 2024, volunteers dedicated an impressive 8,473 hours of service across a wide range of activities, including advisory boards, food deliveries, neighborhood cleanups, recreational leagues, special events, tree giveaways, and more. Their unwavering commitment and contributions embody the spirit of unity and community that make Oakland Park such a special place.
2024 Honorees Included
- Volunteer of the Year: Tamejra Sumpter, with 237 hours of service, exemplifies dedication as a youth sports coach. Her work with children ages 4 to 17 has fostered a culture of respect, teamwork, and family within our community.
- Youth Volunteer of the Year: Dylan Bell contributed 240 hours supporting the Parks and Leisure Service Summer Camp, ensuring safety and fun for participants while leading by example.
- Volunteer Team of the Year: The Dixie West Community Association spearheaded restoration efforts for the Pioneer House and Museum, rallying community support and securing over $100,000 in contributions.
- Volunteer Business Partner of the Year: UFI mobilized nearly 200 volunteers across Oakland Park and Broward County, contributing an impressive 2,771 hours to various gardening and environmental projects, such as Earth Day activities, the grand opening of the Dr. Carter Woodson Community Garden, the Annual Tree Giveaway, and National Good Neighbor Day.
