The City of Oakland Park has once again been recognized for excellence in financial management, receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its fiscal year 2024 budget. This marks the 20th consecutive year the City has earned this prestigious award.
The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is a notable achievement that highlights Oakland Park’s dedication to upholding the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The award is given to municipalities that meet rigorous national standards, ensuring that their budgets serve as effective policy documents, financial plans, operations guides, and communication tools. This recognition underscores the City Commission and staff’s commitment to maintaining transparency, sound financial practices, and continuous improvement in budgeting.

Established in 1906, the GFOA is a professional organization dedicated to advancing public finance practices. With over 23,000 active members, the GFOA has played a vital role in promoting excellence in budgeting through its Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program, which began in 1984.
In line with its reputation for careful financial management, Oakland Park also recommends a reduced millage rate for the 2025 fiscal year, which runs from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. The final public hearing on the FY25 millage rate is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
