In the last 15 years, Oakland Park has invested more than $60 million into stormwater improvements, including the $11 million LERIX pump station on the Sleepy River, which moves water out of the Lloyd Estates neighborhood and into the C-13 canal.

Additional drainage improvements are coming soon to NE 6th Avenue, between NE 38th Street and Commercial Boulevard, thanks to funding from the Broward County Mobility Advancement Program (MAP) through the “Penny for Transportation” sales tax. The project will include the installation of new pipes and underground infrastructure to strengthen resilience and make the area less vulnerable to flooding. Construction will take place in two Phases, with Phase 1 from Commercial Boulevard to NE 46th Court and Phase 2 from NE 46th Court to NE 38th Street. 

MAP Broward staff will host a public meeting to discuss improvements on Wednesday, November 29th, at 5 p.m. at Oakland Park City Hall at 3650 NE 12th Avenue. The community is invited to attend the meeting to learn about the project, ask questions, and provide comments. During construction, the contractor will work closely with residents and businesses to minimize impacts. The project is expected to begin in February 2024 and be completed in 2025.
