Backyard Wildlife Habitat

Oakland Park's “Welcome Our Wildlife” volunteer group is actively seeking to have residents get their yards certified as wildlife habitats through the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). The NWF established a set of criteria based on population. The City needs at least 5 schools, 5 parks and 150 residential properties to be certified for Oakland Park to be declared a “Certified Community Wildlife Habitat” To date we have reached our goals with schools and parks.

We currently have 103 residential properties certified. As of June 1, 2012, we need 52 more Habitat Certification points - at least 26 of which must come from homes.
